A North Dakota City Now Lets You Pay Utility Bills Using Cryptocurrencies

There was a time when cryptocurrencies were considered somewhat taboo in the United States. The administration of the former president of the United States, Donald Trump was also hostile towards the cryptocurrency industry.

According to the latest reports, a North Dakota city has made a huge announcement for the locals. The city has announced that the locals will be able to pay for their utility bills using cryptocurrencies.

With this announcement, another city from the United States has demonstrated its interest and trust in the cryptocurrency industry. With every passing day, the adoption rate in the cryptocurrency industry has been increasing.

The reports have confirmed that it is the city of Williston in North Dakota that has boarded the cryptocurrency ship. The city is ready to accept cryptocurrencies for the payments of utility bills.

The announcement in regards to the launch of the new service was made by Hercules Cummings. Cummings is Williston city’s finance director and he made the announcement on Thursday.

Cummings revealed that the city of Williston had recently formed a partnership with BitPay. BitPay is a cryptocurrency payment solution that has observed a great adoption rate from the citizens of the United States. Even major companies and mainstream institutions all over the United States have started adopting BitPay in abundance.

BitPay has also partnered with several big names in the technological sector. At present, a couple of the largest tech companies such as Facebook and Microsoft are in partnership with BitPay. Cummings also boasted that in the State of North Dakota, Williston city is the first municipality that has adopted cryptocurrencies.

He also stated that Williston is the third city in the entire United States to offer citizens the option of making payments using cryptocurrencies.

Cummings clarified that initially, the citizens will only be able to pay for utility bills with cryptocurrencies. In near future, they would allow the citizens to pay for other legal documents such as permits, landfills, and licenses.
